FAQ's and Policies
Below is a list of some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) and statements about our policies, but please feel free to call our office at (314) 432-7802 if you need additional information. One of our patient coordinators will be happy to assist you.
Q What is our financial policy?
A We are committed to provide you with the best possible care. In order to achieve this goal, we need your assistance and your understanding of our payment policy.
Payment for services is due at the time the services are rendered unless payment arrangements have been approved in advance by our staff. We accept cash, checks, visa or MasterCard. You and your insurance company have a contract and you can submit your claim directly to them. Our fees are considered usual, customary and reasonable by most insurance carriers; however, supplements and some lab tests are not covered by most carriers. You need to contact your carrier as to covered benefits.
We emphasize that as a health care provider, our relationship is with
you and not your insurance company; therefore, all charges are your
responsibility for any services rendered. We realize that temporary
financial problems may affect timely payment of your account. If such
problems do arise, we encourage you to contact us promptly for assistance
in the management of your account.
Q Does Dr. Yu accept insurance?
A Dr. Yu is not a participating physician in any health insurance. He's also "opted out" of Medicare. This means that all Medicare patients must enter into a contract with Dr. Yu prior to being seen.
Why don't we take insurance? We don't accept insurance because, if we did, the insurance companies would, in essence, dictate too much of how we should practice medicine. From this perspective, it is a benefit to our patients that we do not accept insurance so that we can provide what we consider to be the best care to our patients. Our patients affirm this by the fact that they come to us for care. They are seeking a different philosophy and practice of medicine that is not the traditional allopathic practice but what they and we consider to be a more health-promoting practice of medicine.
Having explained our position, we do help our patients by using the
standard insurance codes on our invoices so you can submit them for
reimbursement to your insurance plan. We have no involvement in and
do not guarantee in any manner that you will get reimbursed. This is
entirely between you and your insurance company and dependent on your
insurance company and insurance plan.
Q How much does it cost for an evaluation?
A An evaluation by Dr. Yu will probably be very unique from any you have previously had. If you have read the "About Our Practice" and "Patient Success Stories" pages you probably already understand this. The articles on the "Articles" page also provide a greater understanding of health from a "Complementary and Alternative Medicine" viewpoint.
It is unfortunate that a high percentage of patients see Dr. Yu after conventional treatments have failed. We encourage you to see him as soon as you notice any change in your health and to use him for preventive check ups. Prevention and Healing clinic encourages people to think just as much about preventive evaluations as they do about correcting problems once they have occurred. In this regard, each person's situation is unique. Therefore, we encourage you to call our office and discuss your needs with our staff. At that time, they can provide you with an estimate of the costs involved in checking up on and improving your health.
