ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder)/ ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)
Chief Complaint: Charles, a 12 year old male, diagnosed with ADHD in second grade and has been on Ritalin since then. Symptoms include irritability, "short fuse", impulsive, obsessive, and constant sugar cravings.Diagnostics: EDS (Electrodermal Screening), Hair Mineral Analysis, Food Allergy Test
Physical Exam: Normal exam.
Results: Hair Mineral Analysis revealed an inverted sodium/potassium ratio indicating adrenal exhaustion. Food Allergy Testing revealed multiple food allergies to all dairy products, egg, wheat, gluten, and rye.
Treatments: Avoidance of food to which Charles is allergic. Avoid sugar and honey. Dr. Yu suggested a rotation diet based on the food allergy testing. The treatment also included nutritional supplementation based on the results of the Hair Mineral Analysis. Homeopathic remedies were used to balance Charles' metabolism.
Commentary: Charles usually started his day with cereal with honey or sugar along with bacon and eggs. His typical lunch would be a sandwich with cookies. Dinner was typically meat with pasta and bread. Food allergies have commonly been associated with headaches, joint pains, skin rashes, sinus problems, indigestion, depression, achy muscles, fatigue, fluid retention, overweight, and central nervous system disturbances.
A rotation diet consists of totally avoiding allergy related foods for six to eight weeks. Then gradually the allergy related foods are re-introduced one at a time on a basis of eating only once every four to five days.
Outcome: Charles' behavior significantly improved so that he didn't require any Ritalin.
Summary: ADD/ADHD often respond to avoidance of sugars and the elimination diet based on food allergy test results. If heavy metal toxicity is involved, the symptoms of ADD/ADHD are more severe and it will take much longer to reverse the symptoms.
Anxiety and Depression
Chief Complaint: Mary, a 33 year old white female, complained of acute episode of anxiety, depression, and panic attacks. She "escaped" from a locked-in psychiatric unit with her mother stating that the psychiatric medications were making her feel worse. When Dr. Yu asked about her history, she indicated her problems started one week after she had one large amalgam placed by her dentist. One week later she was in a psychiatric unit.
Diagnostics: EDS (Electrodermal Screening), Hair Mineral Analysis, DMPS Challenge Test for Heavy Metal Toxicity
Physical Exam: Normal exam except multiple silver fillings (amalgams).
Results: Tests for Mercury indicated extremely high Mercury toxicity.
Treatments: Chelation Therapy, Detoxification, Nutritional Therapy
Commentary:Mercury is received from many sources including silver fillings, air pollution, seafood, cosmetics, and vaccinations. Silver fillings are commonly composed of approximately 50% Mercury, 20% silver, 20% copper, and 10% tin. The percentages vary depending on the specific amalgam.
Treatment: Mary had the one amalgam that started her problems replaced with non-metal composite material.
Outcome: Within several days after removing this amalgam, she felt greatly improved. Her anxiety, depression, and panic attacks resolved. She was able to return to work, get married on schedule, which was to occur two months after the problems began.
Summary: Mary saw Dr. Yu for a total of two visits. She chose only to replace the one amalgam that triggered her problems. She should have continued a total treatment program including removal of all amalgams, cleansing and detoxification of heavy metals, and nutritional support to avoid future problems of the same or different nature.
Often, patients choose only to eliminate the immediate ailment without understanding why they got sick in the first place. There are often multiple causes that lead to illness that must be fully resolved in order to avoid other illness in the future. It is the elimination of causes that weaken the psycho-neuro-endocrine and immune system that allow the body's healing to occur and improve one's health. One of the most common causes of psychiatric problems, of which most medical doctors are unaware, is heavy metal toxicity.
Cancer - Lung
Chief Complaint: Mary, a 39 year old white female, complained of coughing up blood. In July 1996 she was diagnosed with non-small cell adenocarcinoma of lung cancer. Before visiting Dr. Yu, Mary had chemotherapy without any response. She came to Dr. Yu for a second opinion.
Diagnostics: Chest X-Ray, Bronchoscopy, Thoracotomy, EDS (Electrodermal Screening), BTA (Biological Terrain Assessment), Food Allergy Tests, Hair Mineral Analysis, Comprehensive Hormone Profile
Physical Exam: Normal except for four silver fillings (amalgams).
Results: Tests for Mercury indicated high Mercury toxicity and arsenic.
Treatments: Chelation Therapy, Detoxification, Coffee Enema, Juicing, Gallbladder-Liver Flush, Sanum Homeopathic Remedies
Commentary: Mercury is received from many sources including silver fillings, air pollution, seafood, cosmetics, and vaccinations. Silver fillings are commonly composed of approximately 50% Mercury, 20% silver, 20% copper, and 10% tin. The percentages vary depending on the specific amalgam.
Treatment: Mercury is one of the most neuro-toxic substances that has been commonly used in Dentistry and has escaped into our environment as an industrial waste. Therefore, the first step of detoxification was to give Jane a series of chelation treatments using DMPS to help her body remove the Mercury. Mary also had all her amalgams replaced with non-metal composites.
Support therapy to aid in cleansing and detoxification included Chlorella, Chlorophyll, Glutathione, a combination of anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals, and Sanum homeopathic remedies. Mary also had a daily coffee enema, juicing with organic carrots and green vegetables, monthly gallbladder-liver flush.
Outcome:Mary's Mercury level dramatically dropped. Within 6 months of starting the treatment program all of Mary's tumor disappeared. A CT scan only showed scar tissue in her lungs.
Mary continues on a maintenance dose of DMPS chelation once a month, coffee enema a couple times weekly, juicing a couple times weekly, and gall-bladder liver flush quarterly.
Summary: Mary, who was supposed to live only one year, now reports that her oncology nurse asks her what she does to look so good. At the time of this writing, she has been cancer free for five years already.
Heavy metal toxicity is one of the major underlying factors in weakening the immune system and has to be addressed for all cancer patients.
Cancer - Tongue
Chief Complaint: Karen, an 86 year old white female from Chicago, IL, came to see Dr. Yu in July 1998 with a history of cancer of the tongue diagnosed in December of 1997. She had a partial resection of the tongue and had recurrent squamous cell cancer. Her oncologist recommended radiation therapy. Karen decided to seek a second opinion.
Diagnostics: EDS (Electrodermal Screening), Hair Mineral Analysis
Physical Exam: Normal exam except multiple amalgams and squamous cell tumor at the apex of the tongue.
Results: EDS revealed a disturbance to the dental meridian and joint problems. Hair Mineral Analysis revealed aluminum toxicity.
Treatments: Homeopathic remedies for dental and lymphatic drainage plus chlorella and green chlorophyll. Karen was instructed to remove her amalgams in Chicago.
Treatment: Karen had her silver-mercury amalgams replaced.
Outcome: Karen next visited Dr. Yu in September of 2000 for unrelated problems. During a discussion of her cancer, she told Dr. Yu that immediately after one-half of her amalgams were removed the cancer spontaneously disappeared. She reported that her oral surgeon had commented to her that he had never seen this happen. She completed the removal of her amalgams and has been cancer free as December 2001 when Dr. Yu had a conversation with her daughter.
Summary: Usually cancer patients require extensive detoxification and nutritional supplementation to reverse the cancer. Heavy metals have often been one of the co-factors that are strongly associated with cancerous conditions and often require extensive chelation therapy to remove the heavy metal toxicity. Karen's case was very unusual in that the cancer resolved itself with minimal detoxification.
Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, and Multiple Sclerosis-like Symptoms
Chief Complaint: Peggy, a 50 year old white female Registered Nurse, came to Dr. Yu in March of 2000 complaining of chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and multiple sclerosis-like symptoms. Peggy complained of weakness of left foot and was dragging her foot with sensations of electrical vibrations in her leg. Her body moved with jerky movements and sharp pains all over. Her neurologist suspected Peggy might have multiple sclerosis (MS) so a spinal tap and MRI were performed. The spinal tap and MRI were negative; they did not show any sign of MS. The neurologist recommended that Peggy wait for another spinal tap and MRI the following year. Peggy knew something was obviously wrong with her so she decided to seek a second opinion rather than just stand idly by waiting for another year to pass.
Diagnostics: EDS (Electrodermal Screening), Galvanic Current Evaluation, Hair Mineral Analysis, DMPS Chelation Challenge Test for Heavy Metal Toxicity
Physical Exam: Unremarkable exam except nine amalgams plus multiple in-laid crowns and varicose veins. Neurological exam was unremarkable.
Results: EDS showed disturbances to Peggy's dental meridians. It also showed disturbances to her kidney and bladder meridians. She was taking antibiotics at the time for a urinary tract infection. The nerve system showed a disturbance only to the left side of her body indicating an asymmetry in her meridian system consistent with her clinical symptoms. Her left adrenal meridian also showed a weakness consistent with chronic fatigue symptoms.
Galvanic current was very high. This has been known to disturb autonomic nervous system function. Hair Mineral Analysis revealed extremely high aluminum toxicity. DMPS Chelation Challenge test revealed extremely high mercury toxicity and also a high tin toxicity.
Treatments: Dr. Yu recommended that Peggy have her amalgams replaced. An herbal body cleansing program was started along with nutritional supplementation based on the results of the Hair Mineral Analysis.
Commentary: The Galvanic current is measured in the mouth in very small amounts using units of millivolts and microamperes. It measures the "mouth battery" that is created by electrical currents between various metals in and on the teeth and the saliva that conducts the current. It causes irritations in the nervous system and releases the heavy metal at a fast rate from the amalgam into the tissues in the oral cavity and the rest of the body.
Outcome: One year later, Peggy's follow-up exam with Dr. Yu showed that she had part of her amalgams replaced. She stated that she was feeling much better. Her neurological symptoms had all essentially disappeared except when she is very tired. She lost 40 pounds based on Dr. Yu's dietary recommendations. Peggy's husband stated, "I got my wife back." Peggy promised to complete her amalgam replacement.
Heart - Atrial Fibrillation and Congestive Heart Failure
Chief Complaint: Judy, an 87 year old white female, came to Dr. Yu in September of 1995, complaining of atrial fibrillation and congestive heart failure. Her cardiac ejection fraction was 21%. (Her heart can only pump at 21% efficiency compared to a normal 65%.) The prognosis she was previously given for her condition was approximately one year to live at most.
Diagnostics: Hair Mineral Analysis, Food Allergy Tests, Blood Tests
Physical Exam: Judy's irregular heartbeat was consistent with atrial fibrillation. Judy has been on multiple medications without any sign of edema (swelling).
Results: Hair Mineral Analysis did not indicate anything exceptional. Food Allergy Tests indicated multiple allergies to dairy products, eggs, papaya, almond, lima beans, sesame, green pepper, and squash.
Treatments: Judy had intravenous EDTA Chelation treatments at one per week for 30 treatments. She took Coenzyme Q10, L-carnitine, hawthorn berries, cayenne pepper, melatonin, vitamins and minerals based on the Hair Mineral Analysis results, intravenous vitamins and minerals once per week for 10 treatments, and coffee enemas.
Commentary: Congestive heart failure with an ejection fraction at 21% is literally a "death sentence" especially at an advanced age.
Outcome: Judy's ejection fraction increased to 35%. As of December of 2001, Judy is now 93 and still active.
Summary: Judy was very open minded about alternative medicine and actively pursued Dr. Yu's recommendations. Her attitude and persistence in following a prescribed course of action considerably paid off for her.
Heart - Coronary Artery Disease
Chief Complaint: Jane, a 55 year old white female, complained of chest pain. She has a history of juvenile diabetes, diabetic neuropathy and diabetic retinopathy. Her heart specialist recommended triple bypass operation. She decided to seek alternatives to a bypass operation.
Diagnostics: Angiogram, EDS (Electrodermal Screening), Hair Mineral Analysis.
Physical Exam: Normal exam except 8 silver fillings (amalgams) and decreased sensation in the lower extremities from the diabetic neuropathy.
Results: Tests for Mercury indicated extremely high Mercury toxicity.
Commentary: Mercury is received from many sources including silver fillings, air pollution, seafood, cosmetics, and vaccinations. Silver fillings are commonly composed of approximately 50% Mercury, 20% silver, 20% copper, 10% tin. The percentages vary depending on the specific amalgam.
Treatments:Chelation Therapy, Detoxification, Nutritional Therapy, Jane also had all her amalgams replaced with non-metal composites.
Mercury is one of the most neuro-toxic substances that has been commonly used in Dentistry and has escaped into our environment as an industrial waste. Therefore, the first step of detoxification was to give Jane a series of chelation treatments using DMPS to help her body remove the Mercury. She was then given an oral chelation agent DMSA and started on EDTA chelation.
Support therapy to aid in cleansing and detoxification included Chlorella, Chlorophyll, Glutathione, and a combination of anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals.
Outcome:Jane's Mercury level dramatically dropped to near normal levels. Her clinical symptoms of angina have disappeared. She reported that she went to Europe and accomplished a lot of climbing of hills without any chest pain.
Jane continues on a maintenance dose of EDTA chelation once a month and follows the Peak Performance Diet recommended by Dr. Yu (See the article titled "Peak Performance Diet.")
Summary: Jane avoided a bypass operation which would have only addressed a symptom of her condition. By eliminating the heavy metal toxicity of Mercury, providing nutritional support and controlling the free radical damage, the causes of her chest pain were addressed.
ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura) - Low Blood Platelet Counts Disorder
Chief Complaint: Joey, a three year old boy, came to see Dr. Yu with a diagnosis of ITP at age 2. He had a platelet count of 10,000 compared to a typical average of 250,000. He had been on steroids without response. Joey's hematologist recommended removal of the spleen to treat the ITP. His initial symptom was that he bruised easily.
Diagnostics:Blood Test for Platelet Counts, EDS (Electrodermal Screening), Food Allergy Tests, Hair Mineral Analysis
Physical Exam: Normal
Results: Lead and aluminum toxicity indicated by Hair Mineral Analysis, Food allergies indicated including cow's milk, wheat, soy, corn, buckwheat, yogurt, and many others.
Treatments: Parasite Cleansing Therapy, Homeopathic Chelation Therapy, Food Rotation Diet, Anti-fungal Remedies
Outcome: Joey was seen by Dr. Yu a total of four times. His platelet count increased from 10,000 to 250,000 in a period of one year. According to Joey's mother, he has been doing very well, he is very active, and does not bruise easily any more. Joey and his parents happily avoided a spleenectomy.
Summary: Joey's Mother told the hematologist what she has done with Dr. Yu. The hematologist said he was not interested in what Dr. Yu did but that maybe Joey never had ITP. If this were true, the hematologist obviously would have recommended a totally unnecessary operation.
Pancreatitis (Inflammation of the Pancreas) and Abdominal Pain
Chief Complaint: Sara, a 61 year old African-American female, complained of abdominal pain. She had a history of gallstones embedded in her pancreas. She developed adult onset diabetes in 1993. She previously had cholecystectomy (removal of the gall bladder). She previously had an appendectomy and a hysterectomy.
Diagnostics: EDS (Electrodermal Screening), Hair Mineral Analysis, Food Allergy Tests
Physical Exam: Sara had one amalgam and multiple scars from previous operations. She had abdominal pain upon palpation especially in the upper right quadrant and the epigastric areas.
Results: EDS revealed major disturbances in the gall bladder, stomach, liver, small intestine, spleen, and allergy meridians. It also revealed electro-signals for parasites. Hair Mineral Analysis revealed aluminum toxicity. Food allergy tests revealed allergies to turkey, pork, shrimp, lobster, and mushroom.
Treatments: Dr. Yu recommended a prescription parasite remedy along with natural parasite cleansing remedies. Neural therapy (injections of local anesthetics into the scars) was used to reduce the pain from scar tissue from her operations. A rotation diet based on food allergy test results was recommended.
>Outcome: Sara's abdominal pain was totally relieved. Previously, due to her pain, Sara had severely restricted her diet. Now she can eat with just a few restrictions in her diet. Sara's pancreatitis was relieved.
Summary: Only three injections of the Neural Therapy were required. Neural therapy is an effective way of re-establishing energy flows along the meridians that have been disturbed by scar tissue. (See explanation of Neural Therapy on the web page "About the Practice.")
Scleroderma
Chief Complaint: Barb, a 55 year old white female, was diagnosed with scleroderma and had restrictive lung problems and fatigue that are typical with scleroderma.
Diagnostics: EDS (Electrodermal Screening), Hair Mineral Analysis, DMPS Chelation Challenge Test for Heavy Metal Toxicity
Physical Exam: Barb had approximately 15 amalgams. Her fingers were swollen like sausages, which severely limited her range of motion.
Results: EDS revealed lymph drainage problems, liver and stomach disturbances, and kidney and gall bladder disturbances. Hair Analysis revealed excessive calcium and aluminum levels. The DMPS Chelation Challenge test indicated Barb had a very high mercury toxicity level.
Treatments:Dr. Yu recommended having all her amalgams replaced. He also recommended Chelation therapy to remove the heavy metals along with nutritional supplementation.
Commentary: The cause of scleroderma was initially unknown. Barb did not act on Dr. Yu's recommendation of replacing her amalgams for about a year. Then one day one of her amalgams just fell out and she immediately noticed that she could move one of her fingers much more freely than previously. She then decided to have all her amalgams replaced.
Outcome: After having all of Barb's amalgams replaced, she had additional improvement in her finger joint movement. Barb's restrictive lung disease has improved as indicated by a pulmonary function test. Her scleroderma has been stabilized.
Summary: Proper dental treatment and heavy metal detoxification is indicated for all autoimmune disorders of unknown cause.
